Family Service Association Executive Transition Announced
Elgin, IL October 30, 2023. The Governing Board of Directors of Family Service Association of Elgin (FSA) is thrilled to announce that they unanimously voted to appoint Janeth Barba, LCSW as our next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective December 30, 2023. The executive search was led by the Executive Committee of the Governing Board of Directors who were seeking a candidate who possesses a broad set of traits such as collaborative, inspirational, strategic mindset, and industry knowledge. They also prioritized candidates who would fit within and strengthen FSA’s client focused, mission-driven culture while specifically seeking out a candidate who would put the well-being of clients and staff first ensuring a caring, supportive work environment. Janeth Barba demonstrated all these qualities and more.
Janeth (JB) Barba has been a dedicated and passionate employee of FSA since March of 2016 where she started as the Director of Crisis Services. She served in that role until 2017 when she was promoted to Clinical Director. As the Clinical Director of the agency, Janeth has assisted in growing the agency’s service lines while also being responsible for quality improvement of our care. Under her guidance, FSA has implemented these additional programs beyond the service lines that FSA had already functioning: Pathways to Success, Integrated Service Coordination, Crisis Intervention Unit (a program in conjunction with Aurora Police Department), 590 Crisis Cares System, and a large revamping of our Community Mentoring Program. Janeth has proven herself as a stalwart advocate for providing the best care to families in need.
Janeth states, “My vision for the future includes a relentless pursuit of excellence in our clinical services, equipping our staff with the skills and training needed to address the complex mental health concerns our families face, and forging meaningful partnerships with other providers and organizations. I am committed to investing in the future of FSA, with an unwavering dedication to what is in the best interest of our agency, the community we serve, and the fulfillment of our mission. I am incredibly proud of FSA's impact on the community we serve and am eager to continue our mission for quality, equitable, holistic, accessible, and client-centered services.”
As we embark on this exciting new chapter with Janeth, we would also like to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to our exiting Executive Director, Bernie May. Bernie has been an instrumental part of FSA's journey, and we owe her a tremendous debt of thanks for her dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to our mission, staff, and clients. Bernie's leadership has helped shape, strengthen, and grow FSA into the organization it is today, and we are deeply appreciative of her many talents and contributions. Bernie’s last day in this role will be February 9, 2024. With warm wishes, we send Bernie off to the next exciting chapter until we meet again.
The Board could not be more excited about the future of FSA under Janeth’s vision and leadership, or more confident of good things to come.
