Bernadette May

Bernadette (Bernie) May is the current Executive Director for Family Service Association of the Greater Elgin Area (FSA) where she oversees the daily operations of this not-for-profit community mental health center who has been serving children and their families since 1931. Bernie has been in this role since September, 2017. Prior to that, she served as the Clinical Director at FSA for five years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Dakota in 1999 and then went on to obtain her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002. She has worked in different capacities in the mental health field since 1998. She gets the great pleasure of co-chairing several committees to help advance positive change in the systems of care while also partaking as a stakeholder in state-wide committees particularly around children’s mental health. Bernie has a passion for community based mental health services where you bring together partners to rally around families so that they can feel healthy and supported where they naturally live, work, learn, and play.
